[Waivers] Jack Campbell

Recommended Posts

I actually feel like Campbell is the scapegoat here, the Oilers defense in general is trash. They're a two man team and I have constantly questioned why people thought they were contenders. They have a lot of fixing up to do - they probably need another two solid DMen without losing McDavid, Drai, and RNH. Tough to do and will be interesting to see how the next few months go. Don't think them acquiring a top 10-15 goalie in the league fixes their issues.

I see a pattern.  When a goalie arrives in Edmonton, they become really bad.  I wonder why?

Skinner: Let’s in 6 goals

Oilers: F you Campbell!

The Edmonton Oilers placed goaltender Jack Campbell on waivers Tuesday.

Campbell, 31, also has a 1-4-0 record this season with a .873 save percentage and a 4.50 goals-against average.

He did not play in the team's 6-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks Monday, though Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft addressed criticism directed at both the netminders post-game

“Our goaltenders wear the same jerseys as the rest of the team,” Woodcroft said. “Are there moments that our goaltenders can be better? Yeah, there are.”

Campbell is in the second season of a five-year, $25 million contract signed with the Oilers in 2022.

Fellow goaltender Stuart Skinner has not fared better  this season, owning a 1-4-1 record with a .856 save percentage and a 3.99 goals-against average.

The Oilers sit second-last in the NHL this season with a 2-8-1 record. Only the San Jose Sharks, who the Oilers will face Thursday, have fewer points this season.

More details to follow.

Everyone but the Oilers called this...five year contract for Campbell smh

Well, they just created a tiny bit of cap room by burying Soup's contract.  And they can use that space to solve one of three glaring issues: depth scoring, defense, and goaltending.  Edmonton has had these problems for the last... decade.

I'd say call up Rodrigue and pray he turns into rookie Binnington.  That would be my plan A, and it's not a good plan at all.

There is no real savings; Soups opens up 1.15m.....Pickard costs 763k. They cant even put a guy on minimums into lineup with only 350k savings.

Skinner lays an egg, McD throws multiple tantrums, as does Ekholm, and Nurse, Drai gets himself a 10 min misconduct, and their head coach get himself tossed and somehow still has a job.

But it's the backup's fault.

We broke them so hard they sent down the wrong goalie

yeah, that's the dumbdumb I asked about elsewhere

Add all the media that picked Oilers to win the cup. Ffnn popularity contest with Rogers golden boy as the poster child. Real journalism has died and has been replaced with twits that pander to paychecks instead of reality.

Surprised Ken Holland would have given this contract. This is more something Benning would do not someone with the accomplishments as Holland

Holland might be the most overrated GM right now. Almost every move he makes is a head scratcher. How do you have the best 2 players in the world and can't build around them? They're against the cap ceiling and they have almost zero star power beyond McD, Drai, and RNH.

Which is a head scratcher since Holland built the Red Wings to be sustainable and competitive for 20+ years and most of that as cup contenders.
