Honestly, they need a major restructuring. Start with firing Holland and Woodcroft. Then trade McDavid, DrySaddle, Nurse, Kane and anyone else with value.

not really sure what Woody is supposed to do with this undisciplined group of whiners. They think McBaby will carry them, and they act like it. McBaby clearly resents having a bunch of passengers on the team. Its broken.

He benefitted from a lack of salary cap and the Red Wings being among the first to really scout Europe. They managed to steal very good players (even some future HOF'ers) in late rounds at a ridiculous, unsustainable rate- Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Franzen, Holmstrom, etc.

The salary cap was the first choking point, and then when they could no longer pull European rabbits out of their hat, they fell off. Holland gave out big contracts to guys like Abdelkader and Brendan Smith which accelerated Detroit's decline. Never won a playoff round after Lidstrom retired.

Holland is to NHL executives what Babcock is the coaches.

Pretty sure Holland is the one that drafted Zadina over QUINN.

So thank you Kenny!

Starts at the top. Rutherford and Allvin built this and deserve a lot of credit. Sure, they inherited several players from bumbling Benning, but JR/PA knew which ones to keep and which ones to trade. Thank goodness they traded Horvat and kept Miller. Thank goodness they traded for Hronek. Thank goodness they kept Boeser.  But also adding Friedman, Soucy, Cole, Suter, Lafferty, DeSmith, and Blueger, who we've yet to see this season.

They also knew which head coach to remove and which one to bring in. Like the Pres and GM, Tocchet and most of his coaching staff have won the Cup or Cups. They know what it takes. This is a serious group who were brought in to build a winner. I have such high hopes for this team.

Well said. You cannot over-state the importance of the players management has brought in over the past year. Invest in defensemen and a strong bottom six to succeed.

They put the wrong guy on waivers

There is a much better chance another team would pick up Skinner's contract at $2.6M x 3 compared to Campbells' $5M x 4.

This is hilarious, its never ceases to amaze how the Oilers continue to reach for new heights of incompetence.

These guys wrote the book on incompetence. Their organization is a certified gong show. Brings new meaning to the word pathetic.

Doesn’t campbell have like a .95% save average against every team not called the Canucks this year?
They’re waiving the wrong goalie imho. Lol and they don’t want to get a proven nhl starter… how long until Mcdavid asks out?

Much less likely Campbell gets claimed than Skinner.  They can't really afford to lose a goalie for nothing

So will Celebrini be playing on the wing with Mcdavid or does he get his own line? 😮

It'd be something else if they somehow got him.

Realistically San Jose, Calgary, and Edmonton could all draft top 7. Maybe Anaheim too if the wheels fall off, but they've looked good thus far.

Anyone think CAR is at least considering Campbell as a transaction somehow with the defence that they have? It would definitely provide a boost to Campbell although his contract is horrid. They don’t have the cap to clear it but could deal Orlov at his 7.75mill per (!!!) back to the Coilers who has another year left on his deal.
The pieces are there…could be a deal if need be.

No one is touching that, not with out a boatload of sweeteners and a timeline of 3-4 years to rebuild.  Teams checking in on Demko wanted to see that he was healthy and could play at the NHL level/win games and he has one of the best goalie contracts out there.

I’m just thinking next season and re-signing both Pesce and Skjei and the opportunity this might present them. That said, Andersen on LTIR gives them a bit of wiggle room (3.4mill), but leaves them with no starting G unless they want to pin hopes on Halak.

I love Oilers fans - two of my favourite posts I saw after Campbell was waived were " now we can sign Patrick Kane" and " we just need Phil Kessel"

The first poster thought Campbell going down freed up his 5 million and the second poster felt the Oilers issue was they only had one natural right winger 🤣
