They will likely say "best player for canucks" or something. So what do they say when Quinn gets 5 or 6 points and passes Petey in overall NHL leaders? somebody please get ready for a TICTOC or a really crazy Gif. The name Matthews will be said at least 2 to 1 over anyone else's. easily.

PDO must be looking crazy rn. We'll take it. You don't win a lot of games where you get outshot 30-16 and you won't often score 5 goals on 16 shots (and without any empty net goals). So the team is fortunate to come away with two points and it would have been nice to see stronger game. But, in addition to getting the 2 pts, there were some other very positive indicators. 1. Mikheyev is looking better and better -- two very nice goals tonight and quite a few bursts of speed. And he is dangerous around the net. 2. DeSmith played well. This game was not a "steal" as most of the Ottawa shots were low danger. In fact, at 5-on-5, the Canucks had more expected goals than Ottawa, despite the shot differential. Basically, Ottawa was following a "shot volume" strategy and the Canucks were following a "shot quality" strategy, as they have all year. And Ottawa blocked a lot of shots. But it is great to have a backup you can have confidence in. Great move to trade Pearson for DeSmith, freeing up essential cap space in the bargain. 3. I thought that Petey did not look that sharp tonight (and the underlying advanced stats on Natural Stat Trick are consistent with that), and he still gets 3 points (!) thanks to a rocket of a shot on the PP and two great passes leading to goals at 5-on-5. As WD once said about another player, that is what skill will do for you, and Petey is one of the most skilled guys in the league at both ends of the ice. 4. Cole had a bad give-away on the first Ottawa goal but he played well overall. The defence as a group did a good job of boxing out, taking away the middle of the ice, and limiting high danger chances. Myers is probably playing the best hockey he has played as a Canuck. Add in Soucy playing well, Hronek playing at the level of a highend 1st pairing RD, and Hughes playing like a Norris favorite, and it is impressive how much the D has turned around in one year. 5. Overall, the flow of play was not as one-sided as the shot clock suggests. Ottawa was the chasing team for almost the entire game and the Canucks settled down to a low event game after getting the initial 2-0 lead. I still did not like to see the team laying back as much as it did. 7. As Tocchet indicated in his post-game talk, the team looked tired which is what you often get after a long plane ride that covers 3 time zones. 8. One big positive is that despite not having a high energy level, the team was able to maintain its structure and play good positional hockey. In the 3rd period the really shut down high danger chances. Ottawa was credited by Natural Stat Trick with 0 high danger scoring chances in the 3rd period. Kragar
Hope the lackluster play was due more to jetlag than indifference. It looked like they were gonna give the Sens the Shark treatment (10 goals against), but they seemed to coast after the 2nd goal. Oh well, I'll sure take it. Shame that the last PP was on a bad call, but what a shot, Petey!

Smashian Kassian
Oilers lost to San Jose (ha ha!). LA lost to PIT. Calgary is also bottom of the West. Oh yea and I guess the Canucks won tonight too! If this is all just a dream never wake me up.
