Popular Post Riddikulus
Myers doesn't really deserve blame for that second goal, as many have mentioned he got knocked down by Bertuzzi and the puck just happened to hit him on the way in. I have been quite critical of him but have to give credit when its due, he has been playing pretty well, minimizing a lot of the mistakes that he usually makes. 4

hockeyfan-observer
Though it was a lost, thought the team competed hard for the most part - the Leafs managed to get some third-four line scoring which made the difference. Anytime you can shut out Marner and Matthews in a game, I am not complaining - need to work on the execution details and a little more emotion as RT put it. Expect a LOT of speed and counter-attacks by the Habs so the Canuck D need to aware of their coverage zones. I prefer they play a more patient game at the start and to minimize the turnovers in the neutral zone or Montreal will feast on the opportunities. Lets see if they can gather at least a point tomorrow. Go Canucks

Kragar
Ugh. was streaming this on ESPN. took a break after the first to walk the dog and have dinner. Felt pretty good, being up 2-1. When I went back to the game, it was after 7pm, so the game was done in real time. This meant I had to go to a separate menu to select the game, and for some stupid reason, ESPN puts individual highlights right below the list of games On Demand. The highlight was Kampf's goal. So, my first though is Oh crap, Leafs get another goal. Then Nylander scores. Crap, still Kampf's to come. Then Gregor scored. Then Robertson. Also, the highlight listed is often by the winning team. Sucks going along knowing they were gonna lose. Full marks to Leaf PK. Even though we were 2 for 3 in the 1st, they were consistently putting on pressure, making it tough to get set up. Oh well, better wake up for tomorrow and beat the Habs. Win the road trip, boys!
Provost
Well I see that Myers has gone from defending poorly, to actively scoring for the opposition We laid an egg tonight… they need some mojo back as they have been struggling the last little bit, they have just gotten away with it before tonight. Popular Post Jeremy Hronek
This season is a marathon.......not a sprint. We weren't going to go 79-2-1 this season, nor were we going to play out of our minds each and every game. We will have our ups and downs this season. It's not about how hard you get hit but how fast you get back up. Come out hard against the Canadiens tomorrow and make a statement. 3 1
Popular Post JamesB
1 hour ago, Blue said: What does the advanced stats say ? Do they bare that out ?? 34 minutes ago, -dlc- said: I heard on the post game as I drove home that Petey's got something bugging him... It had to happen sooner or later. The Canucks have had the bounces go their way so far this season and Demmer has bailed them out when breakdowns have occurred. Tonight the Canucks did not get the breaks. Here are what I see as interesting points. 1. The Canucks outshot Toronto 33-22 and won the "expected goals" battle (using Natural Stat Trick's expected goals model) by a small margin. Despite the final score, it was a fairly even game, but Vancouver probably was the slightly better team. For maybe the first time this season, the final score was unfavorable to the Canucks relative to the underlying quality of the play. 2. That said, several of guys who have been great so far this season had subpar performances. Most importantly, Demko did not have a great game. On the first goal, Demmer seemed to lose track of the puck and was not well positioned to defend the goal-mouth scramble. The second goal was knocked in by Myers who had a particularly chaotic shift, but Demko seemed to move too far to his left. The third goal was a low percentage shot that Demko almost always stops but it looked like his positioning was not quite right. Similarly, the 4th and 5th goals looked like shots Demmer usually stops. Maybe it was just back luck, but it looked like his positioning was not sharp tonight. 3. Also, the Hughes/Hronek pair had their worst game of the season. Their biggest problem was simply that they played too much of the game in their own zone. Usually they defend by keeping the puck at the other end of the ice. Once again, Hughes just did not look that sharp. 4. Interesting information about Petey. I thought he was over his early season problem (likely caused by a Myers shot). But he has not looked his best in the last two games. 5. I have been fairly positive about Myers lately, but he is back to his chaotic style of play. And he prevented what could have been a great start by taking a bone-headed penalty in the first period that led to a Toronto goal. The time of the goal came just after the PP ended but it was essentially a PP goal. Myers made a blatant cross-check for no good reason at center ice right in front of the referee shortly after the Canucks got a PP goal. 6. In the natural stat trick xGA and xGF numbers, Myers, Lafferty, and Hoglander looked bad. Personally, I did not notice Lafferty or Hoglander particularly, In the the HockeyStatCards summary Hronek, Myers and Hughes look bad, which is consistent with the eye test. 7. Bottom line: The Canuck skaters were not outplayed overall by the Leafs, although some of the top players (Hughes, Hronek, Pettersson) were sub-par and so was Myers. But Demmer was also subpar and that combo won't work. Like everyone else on CFF, am hoping for a stronger performance and better outcome tomorrow against Montreal As a positive side note, Abby shut out Bakersfield 4-0 tonight. As another side note, people worried about Canuck "regression" because their PDO was too high can take comfort in the fact that their PDO fell a lot tonight. It is still the best in the NHL but is now pretty close to the "reasonable" or "sustainable" range. 2 1 3

Slegr
They were due for a game like this. I just wish it hadn’t been the Leafs though. It feels like Toronto came in very focused, not wanting to be embarrassed in their barn. Both teams played defensively sloppy, but Leafs played with more pressure. I’m normally super bummed when losing to the Leafs, but our current record still has me upbeat. Time to crush the Habs tomorrow.
CanucksJay
That's too bad. Really wanted this win. I'm sure the boys did too. Toronto played a very good game. The high pressure fast skating game didn't give us much room. The loss wasn't from lack of trying. I felt like we came out hard and played well but Toronto matched it and got some greasy goals.
Popular Post 420Fish
Proof how hockey can hang on the latest results. Canucks lose for the third time this season, and feel awful. Oilers get only their third win, and are ready to celebrate. I'll take the team with three times the points in the standings. 5
