I mean bogus call but never should have got to that point. That Hendershot 15 yard tripping penalty against Hutchison who was sticking his foot out trying to trip Pollard. That play isn’t called the Cowboys run out the clock and the game is likely over at 17-13. Bad officiating went both ways that game.

Next week, Jags win over the Titans, they win the AFC South.  If they lose, then the winner of the Colts vs Texans game wins the division.

Tank division AKA NFC South, the Bucs are in the drivers seat as they play the Panthers.  Should be fun if the Falcons win over the Saints and the Bucs lose.

Bills vs Fish next week should be a banger.

Wonder what other XFL clubs will survive the merger.

USFL, XFL combine to form United Football League

The UFL is back. Even if it’s not the UFL that once existed.

The official combination of the XFL and the USFL will be called the United Football League and/or the UFL. As previously announced, the new spring league will start playing on March 30.

The first game will pit the respective XFL and USFL champions against each other — the Arlington Renegades and the Birmingham Stallions.

The four USFL teams that will survive have been identified. They are the Stallions, the Michigan Panthers, the Houston Gamblers, and the Memphis Showboats.

Arlington clearly will survive the dissolution of the XFL. The remaining XFL teams to land in the UFL have not been identified.

The games will be televised by Fox, FS1, ABC, and ESPN.

Watched the end of Bengals-Chiefs and although Browning deserves a lot of credit for keeping Cincy competitive, his lack of experience really showed down the stretch. He was holding onto the ball far too long, especially when the Chiefs made it obvious they were going bring extra pressure on virtually every play...

The situation was begging for a screen or a quick slant, but instead JB was hanging back in the pocket, looking for 20 yard completions that would never develop. I don't know how many times he was sacked in the last 5 minutes, but it was way too many and couldn't really be blamed on the O Line.

Disappointing, as the Bengals were close to keeping their playoff hopes alive, while messing up those of Mahomes and co.....

Bills took care of business against the Patsies, (once again, in underwhelming fashion) but they can't relax.

Thanks to no help on the out of town scoreboard, Buffalo is in a position where they could earn the #2 seed in the AFC next week, or they could miss the playoffs altogether. Need to step up against the Phish....

Quote

Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke has made an impression on New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Rourke was claimed off waivers by the Pats on December 18.

“Attentive, sharp kid, works hard. Gets here early, stays late, he’s done a good job in things we’ve asked him to do, hasn’t had a lot of reps running our offence, but he’s had some,” Belichick said.

Instead of elevating Malik Cunningham or Will Grier to the 53-man active roster, the Patriots allowed the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers to sign those respective quarterbacks from their practice squad. That shows New England’s level of interest in Rourke.

Eagles are terrible now and they know it.

Ravens are the best team right now, but they still have to prove it in the post-season.

The Steelers have to be ecstatic that they clinched the #1 seed yesterday. Lamar will likely sit out next week's game, vastly improving the chances of Pittsburgh making the playoffs....

The Niners will also likely rest their starters next week, but the Rams already clinched at least a Wild Card, thanks to an awful mistake by QB Tyrod Taylor....

With about 3 1/2 minutes left, Giants kick returner, Gunner Olszewski fielded a punt on his own six, somehow escaped a pile up at the 20 and took it all the way to the house, bring the Giants to within a single point, at 26-25. The extra point was good, but the Rams were flagged for Encroachment, prompting the Giants to go for 2 points and the lead.

On the convert, the Giants sent heavy motion left and then snuck Saquon across the line of scrimmage to the right, where TT somehow managed to throw the ball behind him, from about 5 yards away. Had they completed the pass, Barkley could have jogged into the end zone and given his team a 27-26 lead.

There were still three minutes left and a lot could have happened, but the Rams got a gift on that play and now aren't faced with the prospect of going into Levi's Stadium in a "must win", with or without the home team playing it's A team.

FFS, stop covering for the zebras and admit that they blew the call. It's something that happens game in and game out.

Looking at the X link provided in the article, it seems there were two penalties called on the play.

#68 allegedly did not report as a receiver and caught the pass, which is a penalty.

However, #70 also reported as a receiver and was covered up at the line of scrimmage by #68, which is also a penalty.  So even if #68 did report as a receiver, a penalty was going to be called.

This Cowboy fan will be watching Dallas win the NFC East this Sunday with a clear conscience.    :towel:

Ravens to sit MVP favorite Lamar Jackson against Steelers

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Just like 2019, the Baltimore Ravens will rest NFL Most Valuable Player favorite Lamar Jackson in the regular-season finale.

This means Jackson will have at least a 19-day break before playing in the AFC divisional round.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced Wednesday that Jackson would not play Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game that has no playoff ramifications for Baltimore. The Ravens (13-3) clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed and a first-round bye last week, but the Steelers (9-7) need a victory given that they have a 21.6% chance of reaching the postseason, according to ESPN Analytics.

"It's really not any one thing that goes into it," Harbaugh said. "Just all things considered, it seemed to be the right thing to do. We had conversations with Lamar and others and made the decision."

Tyler Huntley will make the start for Baltimore, which will host a divisional-round game on Jan. 20 or 21.

"I'm cool with it," Jackson said. "Me and Coach talked about it. I feel like it was best to sit me."

The Ravens followed the same course with Jackson in 2019, when they secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC before the final game of the regular season. Baltimore sat Jackson and six other starters in the finale.

After a long layoff, Jackson and the Ravens looked rusty in a 28-12 upset loss to the Tennessee Titans in the divisional round. Baltimore was held to a season-low in points, and Jackson was 31-of-59 (52.5%) for 365 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.

"2019 is over with," Jackson said. "We're always talking about it -- I find myself talking about it. It's different. That was just my first full season in the NFL. But it's a lot different mindset, different group of guys. I feel like all-around we're different."

Harbaugh pushed back against the narrative that Baltimore's offense was sluggish in that 2019 playoff loss, pointing out the Ravens totaled 530 yards.

"We didn't score enough points, but it wasn't like we weren't moving the ball," Harbaugh said. "I think we had really good practices and guys had good spirits. I think we had a good game plan, we just didn't get the job done in certain plays. So that's how football goes. I guess the long-winded point here is that you just look at where you're at with your team at this time and make the decisions that are best as you see it."

Jackson was one of 12 quarterbacks to start every game for his team this season, but Harbaugh is taking the safe route with Jackson. He did not finish the previous two seasons because of late-season injuries -- an ankle injury in 2021 and a sprained knee in 2022.

In his first full season since 2020, Jackson is the heavy betting favorite to win his second NFL MVP award after throwing five touchdowns and recording a perfect passer rating in a 56-19 rout of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. During Baltimore's six-game winning streak, Jackson has thrown 14 touchdown passes and two interceptions for a 109.8 passer rating, averaging 250.2 yards passing and 56.7 yards rushing.

Jackson is considered the best player on the NFL's best team, but he could go against the grain statistically if he was named NFL MVP. No quarterback has won the award when ranking outside the top 10 in both passing yards and touchdown passes. Jackson ranks 14th in passing yards (3,678) and 10th in touchdown passes (24).

As far as other starters who might sit, Harbaugh said the team will first have to sort out its injury situation throughout the week. Baltimore had five starters not practicing Wednesday: wide receivers Zay Flowers (calf) and Odell Beckham Jr. (rest), guard Kevin Zeitler (quad/knee), safety Kyle Hamilton (knee), and cornerback Marlon Humphrey (calf).

"It's like a puzzle, except the puzzle pieces are constantly morphing in different shapes day by day," Harbaugh said. "So by Saturday I'm sure it'll all fit together."

Except that there are multiple photos of him going up to the ref to do just that.

But as I mentioned in the second part of my post, even if he did report as a receiver there was still a penalty on the play.

The only one who is saying that #70 reported as eligible is the ref. And he says that #68 didn't.

The video I saw shows Decker (#68) get sent over by Goff and walk right over to the ref to report. Skipper (#70) comes over as well, but the ref has already started walking away before he gets there. There's no eye contact and no acknowledgement from the ref at all.

I think the ref just mixed the two guys up and is now covering that fact up.

Hmmmm....yes, that does look a bit problematic.

Oh well, refs are human.   We all make mistakes.   No sense crying over spilt milk.  Let's just put this behind us and move on.  :classic_unsure:
